Meet Madeline

Women's Savings Group Member, Dominican Republic

Madeline, an entrepreneur from the Dominican Republic, had the determination to create a better life for her family. But before she joined a savings group, she was simply getting by, living day to day without a clear path forward.

Her mother, Bélgica, was the first to recognize an opportunity. When three women visited her small business to talk about financial training and savings groups, she listened. Encouraged by the possibilities, she joined, and quickly realized the power of saving and planning for the future.

As the savings group grew, so did their family’s ambitions. Inspired by her mother, Madeline also joined in the second year, determined to build something of her own. With her first loan, she purchased three fans to start a small business. What began as a modest investment soon transformed into a thriving business.

With every loan she took, Madeline reinvested in her business. Every dollar was used wisely, paying off her loans, expanding her inventory, and reinvesting in her future.

But for Madeline, this journey has always been about more than just financial security, it’s about giving her four daughters the future they deserve. Before, they lived in precarious conditions, sharing a single bed. Now, thanks to financial training and the discipline of saving, they are living comfortably within their means. Through the savings group, Madeline learned that a better future isn’t just possible, it’s achievable with the right support.

Challenges remain, especially in keeping track of finances and managing customer payments, but Madeline approaches every obstacle with the same resilience that got her this far. She now has a vision for her future, one built on the foundations of financial education, determination, and the unwavering support of her community.

“I always had the will to work hard,” Madeline reflects. “I just needed the right tools to start.”
