Women's Savings Group Member, The Dominican Republic

At just 28 years old, Suleyki is a proud mother, a determined entrepreneur, and a rising leader in her community in the Dominican Republic.

The fifth of ten siblings, Suleyki grew up surrounded by a close-knit, supportive family. After becoming a mother herself, she knew she wanted to create something of her own—something that would help her provide for her two young daughters, ages six and seven, and inspire them in the process.

Suleyki’s journey into entrepreneurship began modestly. She started working in someone else’s business when she was still very young, learning the basics of how to earn an income. But everything changed when a friend gifted her a sewing machine and taught her how to use it. That gift became the foundation of Z y S, the business Suleyki named after her daughters.

As her designs caught the attention of her neighbours and friends, Suleyki’s business began to grow. But she needed tools and capital to keep up with demand. Her mother introduced her to Aspire, and with her mother acting as her guarantor, Suleyki was approved for a $500 loan. She used the funds to purchase a new sewing machine, a display rack, and products to sell.

More loans followed as her business expanded. Suleyki reinvested in additional sewing machines and grew her production capacity. Though she had initially run the business with a partner, Suleyki eventually stepped into full ownership—confident, equipped, and independent.

Even while living at a distance, Suleyki stayed connected to her Aspire savings group, receiving training and guidance remotely. The group didn’t just teach her how to manage her finances—it taught her how to lead. She credits her transformation to the support of her family, the grace of God, and the lessons she learned through the savings group.

Today, Suleyki is building a better life for her daughters—one stitch at a time. And she’s proving that with support, faith, and determination, it’s possible to turn a simple opportunity into a powerful legacy.
