Meet Cleyda
Savings Group Client, Colombia
Cleyda’s journey is a testament to resilience and hard work. She moved from Sucre state to Cartagena 15 years ago as a single mom. Despite being chased out of her home in a traumatic event that led to her mother’s passing, Cleyda remained determined to build a better life for her and her children.
Starting as a cook, she faced health challenges due to the cooking process and heat. Cleyda switched gears to running a store, a business she nurtured for six years. When the pandemic hit, her business took a hit, and she had to shut it down.
In the face of discouragement, many in Cleyda’s situation might have remained trapped in ultra-poverty. However, a friend’s invitation to join a savings group became a turning point in her life.
With the support of the savings group, Cleyda not only revived her business but is also saving to expand it. She is grateful for the help of Agape and the savings groups, which serve as more than just a financial lifeline—it’s a community that empowers her to pursue her dreams for herself and her family.
Cleyda’s story is one of everyday challenges met with determination and the practical support of a community that makes a difference in the lives of ordinary people those trapped in poverty.
