Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and one of the most vulnerable to devastating climate events. In rural Malawi, farming families are struggling with erratic weather, soil degradation, and financial instability. In the Mulanje District, over 1.7 million people face food insecurity every year. 80% of the population relies on rain-fed agriculture, which is increasingly unreliable due to climate change. Most families remain trapped in poverty, surviving on less than $2.15 a day.
With your help, we can change this and equip smallholder farmers to build brighter, more resilient futures!
Every $285 donated, you can equip one farmer with:
- Regenerative agriculture training to adapt to climate shocks and restore soil health.
- Increased food security through diversified crops and higher yields.
- Financial literacy, income diversification, and access to savings groups to strengthen resilience.
Your generosity this GivingTuesday is the key to unlocking a sustainable future for rural Malawi.
Together, we can create lasting
impact—ending hunger, empowering women and youth farmers, and building a climate-resilient future.
Mary's Journey: Empowerment Through Opportunity
Mary, a resilient farmer and mother from Malawi, has always worked hard to provide for her family. But for years, her efforts were undermined by extreme poverty and the increasingly harsh effects of climate change. Unpredictable weather patterns—ranging from severe droughts to intense flooding—made it difficult for Mary to grow enough crops to sustain her family, let alone sell any surplus.
Through Opportunity International, Mary received vital training in climate-resilient farming practices, such as crop diversification and irrigation techniques, which helped her adapt to these challenges. She also learned financial management skills that allowed her to invest in drought-resistant seeds and improve her farm’s productivity.
With this support, Mary turned her struggling farm into a thriving source of income, empowering her not only to feed her family but also to inspire other women in her community to pursue sustainable farming. Mary’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right resources and training, even the most vulnerable can overcome the obstacles of poverty and climate change.
Your gift this GivingTuesday can pave the way towards brighter futures for more farmers, like Mary.
