Sowing Seeds of Opportunity for 60,000 people in Malawi

Project Timeline:
2025 to 2027

OIC Goal:
$630,000 over three years

People Reached:
6,000 smallholder farmers, impacting 60,000 people

In Malawi’s Mulanje District, rural farming families face food insecurity, soil degradation, and the accelerating effects of climate change. Through this transformative initiative, OIC, together with Opportunity International Malawi and Opportunity International Deutschland, will equip 6,000 smallholder farmers, 70% of them women, with regenerative agriculture techniques and access to savings, credit, and training. The ripple effect will reach 60,000 people across the region through improved food security.

The program integrates environmental sustainability and financial empowerment. Farmers will employ regenerative practices to build healthy soils, increase water retention, and diversify their crops, improving both harvests and resilience. Village Savings and Loan Associations will offer a gateway to formal financial services, while Farmer Support Agents will provide personalised coaching and demonstration plots to reinforce learning in real time.

This climate smart approach is a blueprint for long term transformation, strengthening local food systems, building household incomes, and protecting the environment for future generations. Your support will help farmers rise with dignity, feed their families, improve and protect their arable land, sowing hope where it’s needed most.
