The “No Woman Alone” giving group is fired up after our trip to meet women in Savings Groups in Santo Domingo! The women we met inspired us with their courage, determination, and hope for the future. After hearing their stories, we wanted to do more – and to connect our communities with theirs.
Six women from three provinces are walking a combined 3,560 km – spanning the distance between our homes in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto – to support women in the Dominican Republic as they build stronger futures through savings groups, training, and small businesses.
We would be so grateful for your support and encouragement as we take on this challenge.
For years, Veronica worked hard to provide for her family, but opportunities were limited. Through her Savings Group, she gained access to support, encouragement, and the confidence to invest in herself.
Today, she runs a thriving corner store where she sells homemade empanadas and other household essentials. Her business has increased her income, but what matters most to Veronica is the extra time she can spend with her children and the hope she now has for the future.
With plans to open a second location, Veronica is proving that when women have access to opportunity, they can build lasting change for their families and communities.
Elizabeth knew what it was like to work long hours without seeing a path forward. Determined to create a better future, she began selling cleaning products door-to-door while participating in a Savings Group.
What started as a small side business has grown into a successful housewares shop operated from her home. Today, Elizabeth earns a stable income, serves customers throughout her community, and enjoys greater independence and security for her family.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that even small opportunities can open the door to something much bigger.

For more than 25 years, Lydia has been a familiar face in her community, welcoming neighbours into her café for coffee, food, and conversation.
Her business has provided a source of income for her family while also creating a gathering place for others. Through the support and encouragement of women around her, Lydia has continued to grow as an entrepreneur and community leader.
When we met Lydia, we were inspired by her quiet confidence, resilience, and generosity. She embodies the spirit of women supporting women—proof that no woman succeeds alone.
