What You Can Do Market Day
The MarketDay curriculum is an exciting, hands-on teaching module designed to introduce grade 6 students to entrepreneurship and microfinance: two of the best and most sustainable ways to eradicate chronic poverty. The students work in small groups (similar to trust groups), create a business plan, make their crafts and at the end of the course, they host a MarketDay event to sell their products with all proceeds going to Opportunity International Canada.
The 2018 MarketDay Program was very successful. The teachers, students, parents and volunteers made it all possible. With some matching funds made available through the Tamara Foundation, over $23,000 was raised this year alone, by grade six students involved in the BC MarketDay program. Earlier this year, Langley Christian Middle School raised $7,371; Abbotsford Christian Middle School raised $5,164 and Pacific Christian School raised $3,240.
