What You Can Do Market Day
The MarketDay curriculum is an exciting, hands-on teaching module designed to introduce grade 6 students to entrepreneurship and microfinance: two of the best and most sustainable ways to eradicate chronic poverty. The students work in small groups (similar to trust groups), create a business plan, make their crafts and at the end of the course, they host a MarketDay event to sell their products with all proceeds going to Opportunity International Canada.
Earlier this year, Pacific Christian School in Victoria raised over $4,000 through the 17 little businesses set up by the Grade 6 students and on February 23, Langley Christian Middle School raised $4,863. Funds raised by these Grade 6 students will be matched by the Tamara Foundation for Opportunity’s work, Building Healthy Communities, in Bihar, India. Abbotsford Christian Middle School will be hosting their 5th Annual MarketDay on May 25th.
